The late Dr. Michael Heiser wrote many books and was instrumental in understanding the Bible’s teaching of the “Divine Council.” It all started when he realized that Psalm 82 uses the Hebrew word “elohim” first to refer to the one, supreme God and then later to multiple divine beings with whom God conferred. These “elohim” — “angels”, if you will, although the word “angel” is a designation for an elohim who serves as a messenger — are found everywhere in the scriptures, and are present in such major passages as the Genesis 6 event where they came down and created hybrid children with humans, the testing of Job, and the Tower of Babel when the nations were formed, each being ruled by an elohim.
Dr. Heiser’s book, Supernatural, is a concise summary of his teaching on the Divine Council and his book, The Unseen Realm, covers the topic in detail. Both books are highly recommended.
